Suttons Bay Parks

Welcome to the web site for Suttons Bay Parks. This site features the parks within the township. Some parks are maintained by the township, some by the Village and some are co-managed. This site also includes Suttons Bay School facilities and Peshabestown (Strongheart Center) facilities. Permission is needed to use the facilities at these two sites.

While this site includes all the parks in our community it is the intent to feature the newest park development- “Herman Community Park”.

The township purchased 126 acres of property in August of 2009. A generous grant from the Michigan Natural Resource Trust Fund, Rotary Charities, The Leelanau Conservancy and private donations made this a reality and the first step in creating “A Gathering Place in the Heart of Leelanau County”.

In 2011 fund raising efforts continue with an aggressive phase 1 goal which includes roadway, parking, tennis courts and sports fields preparation. See our brochure for more information on the Herman Park project.

Parks and Recreation Programs are about family values. They provide an outlet for good health, fitness, social camaraderie, environmental education and community pride. Parks help the economic viability of the community. Persons in our community can make a difference by supporting the efforts of the township in the development of Herman Community Park.
